Advanced polyurethane for wind turbine blades

Bayer MaterialScience is undertaking a new research and testing project to determine the viability of bio-based polyurethane composites reinforced with carbon nanotubes, for use in wind turbine blades.
The company?s polyurethane-based systems reinforced with its Bayrubes carbon nanotubes during the resin phase have been proven to create as much as a 50% increase in strength-to-weight ratio by modifying the resin component of the composite to percolation levels ranging from 0.1-0.4%.
